In this 4 hour workshop I’ll be guiding you through indigo dye basics and joined by artist Abbie Hyche of AVE to show you leather tooling techniques. You’ll be creating a hand-dyed canvas tote bag with hand tooled and riveted leather straps. The workshop will take place at the beautiful studio space at Abraham Rowe Photography and Flori Design Co. in the heart of Seven Points. 204 Cypress Mill Rd.Florence, Al.

I will cover the following indigo dye basics:

• how to set up and maintain an organic indigo dye vat

• how to prepare your fabric to achieve long-lasting color

• resources for dye materials

• how to create patterns using shape resist techniques

• dyeing your canvas bag

We will take a break for lunch (included in workshop fee ) and then Abbie will guide you through leather tooling techniques as you design and tool the leather straps which you will rivet to your canvas tote.

REGISTRATION FEE INCLUDES:
All the materials, tools and supplies you will need to create your tote bag + morning coffee, tea and snacks , lunch and beverages.

We ask that you bring a pair of long rubber gloves (dishwashing gloves work well) and suitable attire for messy work.

You will leave the workshop with the necessary knowledge to set up and maintain an indigo dye vat at home, and to integrate tooled and riveted leather components into your textile work.
